Colombo Model United Nations (COMUN) Delegate workshop
After the COMUN Faculty Advisor meeting held at the Overseas School of Colombo, the COMUN Executive Committee held a delegate workshop for COMUN 2018-19. This workshop was held for delegates and COMUN advisors to get to know the committee members (chairs and non-chairs) and the committees COMUN 2018-19 will be hosting this year. Overall in this workshop, all the chairs of the committees gave a broad introduction to their topics, targeted audience/student delegates, and general information about the committee. This year COMUN will have 6 committees which include General Assembly 1, 3, 4, and 20, Public committee (PC), and Special Committee (SC). All chairs from these committees gave their presentation on this workshop to the delegates and faculty advisors.
During this workshop my job, as the Deputy Head of Technology, was to work with my Head of Technology- Anuda, and Head of Media- Milo to control all technological work needed in hosting the workshop such as maintaining PowerPoints for the presentations, handle photography, create a COMUN theme video, control the lightings, mikes, and other stage related work. In this workshop I focused on showing my commitment and demonstrate skills and the benefit of working collaboratively.
During the sessions I was sometimes managing the slides, then switched to controlling lights, and also helped with mike issues on stage. Through the help of teaching the how to operate in these activities by Anuda, I was able to perform these activities. I did learn a lot of technical work which will help me during the main COMUN conferences in March, where I will be helping with the technological work during debates. I think this workshop was a success because no errors nor mistakes occurred with PowerPoints, theme video, and lighting. This was possible because of the collaborative work us 3 did together. The theme video was based on ‘Global Perspectives’ and was initially created by the 2nd Deputy Head of Technology- Youzhi Wang, however I helped with the footage selections and editing the video. That video was to be done in a short amount of time and needed to be very strong and must show the theme of ‘Global Perspective’, I though it will be very hard to finish the video but since we both worked together it got finished just in time.
This COMUN Delegate Workshop was another step towards success which is the final conference in March of COMUN. After the faculty meeting, even in this workshop there were no objections towards the technology department of COMUN. After this workshop I’ve improved my technical skills and strengthened my bonding with the members of the technology department and now we as a tech team will work together to make COMUN 2018-19 a success in March.
