“Let’s Go Geckos!”

Last but not least our host school, the GECKOS.

For SAISA girls volleyball 2018 I had the honour of being a master of ceremony alongside my peer Savi. Having been known for our school spirit and confidence we took up the role with nothing but pride. We worked together to buildup the energy within the crowd. As we introduced all the teams from all across Asia and the middle East, we officially opened the tournament.

The ceremony was conducted in a very orderly manner. Traditions from years ago were carried out to honour sportsmanship and the our love for sports. It was a eye opening to be apart of the SAISA tournament in a different aspect, besides an athlete. I cherished and enjoyed every moment of being at the podium, be forth everybody. I worked collaboratively with Savi to commence the tournament in such great spirits. It wasn’t necessarily a challenge due to our willingness to be the outgoing and school spirited people we are.

Last school year I was the student government association’s secretary and in previous years I was on my school’s debate team. I was able to transfer the skills I had learnt from those activities, towards executing such a well spoken opening ceremony. With things like incorporating the audience, to the tone of confidence in my voice. These were skills I have acquired over the years and was able to use to my advantage. I was reassured through my previous experiences, thus I felt comfortable being up there in front over a 100 people. Post opening ceremony I received a lot of positive feedback from members of the audience. I was happy to help Mr. Turner, our head of sports department, with the tournament as it is a huge responsibility. The maturity of my experiences from high school, played a role in allowing me to be given such a rewarding oppourtunity.

I look forward to represent my school more often!
