My extra-curricular activities at OSC

Women’s Week

Challenges and Skills:

The leading weeks to women’s week were especially challenging as we had to plan and assemble all the materials needed for the activities taking place. Making more than 500+ ribbons by hand was one of the most challenging parts as we areee a small group in our services but had to make ribbons for all their homerooms in secondary. Many of us had to take the ribbons home and continue making them. Another challenging obstacle were the cookies for the bake sale. We needed 200 custom cookies in a short period of time which took a lot of research and bargaining to be able to accomplish. However both the challenges were overcome by not only planning the week in a smart manner so that the cookies can have more time to be prepared and we can complete the ribbons during the weekend.

Initiative and Planning:

As one of the only DP’s in our service, I did a lot of planning and initiated many ideas as I was one of the oldest in my service and could arrange and attend the bake saldistributeall the ribbonsons secondary andapresent the presentation in the primary assembly. The pink ribbons and bake sale were pitched by meell well me as me atendiboth the primaery and secondary bake sales. I took the initiative er volunteer to count the money earned and manage the bake sales, in general this women’s weetook a lot of planing to execute and initiating ideas and encouragingipeople to participate go achive our goals as a service group.

Commitment to and Perseverance:

I committed to my service and this womenwoman’s week heavily as I was present and helped in all the activities conductedfor all the planned daysell well as take extra time after school and during breaks to encoruthee OSC members to donate for the foundation we were collaboratingiwith. I went to classrooms and teachers lounge individually and gave a speech on how the foundation aid women and girls who are in great need and how they can help this foundationioutside of school if they are interested.

Skills and Working Collaboratively:

The activities would not be possible to be excutindividually therefore the collaborationiduring the activities and beforehand while preparing

Engagement with issues of global significance:

Gender inequality is a fundamental issue around the world and it does not get enough recognition ubiquitously. Therefore as a school community we decided to show our support for women around the world through a myriad of activities.
