On the 26th of May 2022, the OSC class of 2022 graduated. It was an affair that was filled with joy and splendor as it was the first graduation that OSC conducted as a school in 3 years. I was proud for all of the DP2s who graduated however unfortunately I could not watch majority of the ceremony as I had another duty to perform, the live music.
As a member of the concert band, I had two jobs. To play the timpani at the beginning of the ceremony and to play the glockenspiel at the end, both occasions were used to accompany the graduates as they were walking, The two pieces we had to play were Pomp and Circumstances and Music For The Royal Fireworks and although I was extremely nervous that I would mess up prior to the ceremony however to my surprise it went extremely smoothly.
Overall the graduation ceremony was a great success and it was an honour to be a part of it.
Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process: Playing the timpani was an extremely new experience for me as I had never played before and learn how to play a week before the ceremony due to member unavailability. However I overcame this challenge and learnt the new skill of playing the timps.
Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively: Being a part of a band meant that we had to work collaboratively and therefore it was only when we achieved this goal that we were truly able to perform to the best of our abilities.
