Home Run 2023!

On the 11th of March 2023, Housing and Habitat in collaboration with Care for Paws hosted the annual Home Run! I arrived at school at 7 and this year as I was in charge of organizing the people and stops, I left with the first group of people on the bus at 7.30. We had spent many days meticulously planning and altering the route and the day before I had gone around the route with Mr.Le Blanc so I was extremely familiar with what I needed to do, it was just a simple matter of execution. The number of people left to drop off eventually dwindled down to zero and at each stop, I gave them explicit instructions on what to do and who to call in the case of an emergency. We then returned to take the second group of people and each time I repeated exactly what I had done before, ensuring that everyone was in the right place and that there was no confusion. We then returned to school thus signalling that Home Run 2023 could officially begin!

When the run was officially underway, my new job was to follow the last runner in the truck and collect people from each stop once the last runner had passed them. While this turned out to be a fairly tedious process as the last runners decided to take their time, it was essential in ensuring that nobody got lost and that nobody was stuck at their stop for too long. Overall, the run went extremely smoothly and Housing and Habitat as a service group were able to raise a lot of money which we will use for our future endeavours!

Learning Outcomes:

Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience: As one of the senior service group members, the majority of the planning behind the event rested upon our shoulders. I had to ensure that I completed all of the tasks which were entrusted upon me in order for the event to occur smoothly.

Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively: HomeRun would not have been possible if it was not for the collaborativeness demonstrated by each and every individual involved. We all had to work as one team which I am proud to say that we did.
