Over the past two years, the 2023 cohort has continually revised their CAS goals and their future outlooks. Throughout this, the grade has exemplified what it means to be a CAS student.
At the start of this academic year I outlines both secondary and primary goals in each CAS aspect I hoped to achieve in my final months of OSC.
Creativity
In regards to Creativity, I’d been looking forward to my role as codirector in the school play, which was highly rewarding experience that I am proud to have completed. Subsequently I had also taken part in the Gala. Creativity is a department I’ve grown in, more specifically in my exploration of various aspects of creativity–from adjusting mics to writing poetry. I’d listed a secondary goal last year, which was to “create work that is fulfilling”–in whatever medium that may be and quite unexpectedly, I’d been able to develop and print my own collection of poetry entitled ‘Life Before Life’ which features over 50 works and spans several years. This work feels to me like the end-product of my explorations with creativity, as well as a recognition of my past as I move into a different stage.
Activity
When creating goals for action in August, I’d mentioned consistently training for SAISA volleyball, which I managed to do through consistent practices 5 days a week–all of which culminated in the SAISA competition in Dhaka. I’d specifically mentioned my serving skills, but since then, my goals had shifted, as I prioritized receiving to better reflect my role in the tournament. Since SAISA season finished, I’ve been able to partake in weekly volleyball sessions on Thursdays. As secondary goal, I’d previously mentioned dedicating time to slacklining, and through my CAS project I’d had the pleasure of not only practicing myself, but also sharing this activity with the school community.
Service
It’s been a long road with Service–having started with the program in grade 7, to being a student leader in grade 9, and holding two leadership positions over COVID, service has been a consistent element in my time at OSC, and has been recognised as such through two service awards. In my goals for service, I described continuing this legacy and making space for new leaders, which I’ve been able to do, as Recycling and Sustainability ushers in new generations of student leaders. Moreover, I’d briefly mentioned transferrable skills, which through for example my experience in Borderlands, I’ve been able to uphold.
All in all, the CAS program has been an integral part of my time in DP and I look forward to taking what I have learned from it into the future.
