Creatuanary was a January art, writing and photography challenge adopted by The Advocate based on the art challenge of the same title originally created by Dibujante Nocturno, Joshua Cairós and Rafater. By posing prompts every week we aimed to lay a springboard for ideas that would encourage our OSC community to get creative and submit their work to The Advocate.

The prompts for the challenge as suggested by its name were based on mythical creatures.  I was given the responsibility of choosing the creature for each week as well as creating weekly prompt posters to promote the challenge. Using Canva I tried to make the posters as appealing as possible by using a consistent colour scheme and format.  For the first week, we had medusa followed by the Kraken and ended the final week with the all too famous dragons. The challenge was a way to encourage artists and writers to use a free prompt to create artwork.

In addition to the Creatuanary challenge, the advocate has also been busy promoting our website where we have also begun featuring submissions every week. The website and weekly features are not only an initiative to encourage submissions but also a way to promote and empower the writers and artists within the OSC community. Following the first launch of the website we also designed a poster to promote the website’s launch hoping to draw attention toward our talented OSC community.
