While I’ve been drawing nearly all my life I’ve always restricted myself to a very short spectrum of media , signing up for the after school printmaking club was an opportunity to branch out and experiment with new techniques.

On the first week we tried out a relief printing technique using styrofoam plates. Inspired by a book I was reading , I created a bird constructed using geometric pattern.I had fun with line work and experimenting with different backgrounds.

On the second week we used a different method of inking ,where we placed an inked sheet of plastic below our paper and then used a pencil to trace our print on the back of the paper. Our instructor also showed us that we could create an interesting collage background for our prints using different types of paper. I used beige mulberry paper for my background coupled with blue and gold scrapbook paper as accents. On it I printed a human heart and I was really happy with the result ,although next time I would keep in mind that the final print is a mirror image of the drawing. To finish off used cut some pieces off a paper doily to create branches off the aorta

One thing I took away from the ASA was the use of different paper to add texture and contrast to an artwork. I also incorporated this method to one of my pencil portraits by using newspaper to add dimension to a simple pencil drawing.

To conclude I hope to keep more learning techniques though this ASA and blend them into my individual artwork and create new original pieces.
