Semester 1 Service Reflection ’18

I chose to work with the “Temple School Service” group this year. This service group spends time with children between the ages of 3-6 from the Pelawatte Temple School on Thursday’s from 2.50-3.50 p.m. All these children come from underprivileged families and so we help and work with the children to provide them with opportunities and experiences they wouldn’t get.

We spent a lot of time this semester  with the children this year where we taught them the letters of the alphabet along with some nursery rhymes and songs. All the children were given an “Alphabet Workbook” in which they write and color the letters of the alphabet learnt that day.  Our project for this semester was to give the children something for Christmas. To do so we organized a “Toy and Stationery Drive” to collect Christmas gifts for the children. Most of the primary contributed to this. We also planned a Christmas Party for the children  where we watched a movie, played games, sang carols while enjoying some lovely Christmas food. It was a good opportunity for the children to have fun and hopefully understand the true meaning of Christmas.
