Alexandra's CAS Journey

DP2 CAS Goals

CREATIVITY:

My goal for the upcoming year is to practice my painting skills, both watercolor and acrylic paint at home. I would like to research new skills and learn new techniques to improve the precision, blending, and composition of my paintings. Another one of my goals is to learn how to sew using a sewing machine in order to sew small items (possibly reusable masks and headbands) and tailor clothes. Currently, I know the basics of sewing by hand however I would like to be able to learn how to use the machine because it is able to create straight and even stitches.

ACTIVITY:

My plan is to exercise five times a week at least either before or after school. During the summer I regularly ran at a running track close to my house and used the Nike Run Club to record my progress and occasionally listened to their guided runs for recovery, endurance, and interval speed runs. Using this app I will record my times, distances, and pace which I will challenge myself to improve. On some days when I am unable to go for a run, I will instead complete at home HIIT or circuit workouts. I also want to improve my flexibility by trying to stretch every day and go to yoga classes on Saturdays.

SERVICE:

As a leader of the Reefkeepers service group, we will hopefully be able to start meeting once again. When we do, we will collaborate to continue previous actions, such as selling our Reefkeepers T-shirts, as well as initiate and plan new socially-distanced and safe actions and events to increase the awareness of the issues facing Sri Lanka’s reefs and the global oceans and take action to reduce the pollution in the reefs. This year I will also complete my CAS project to publish, translate, and distribute the children’s book Rosie the Reefkeeper hat I wrote for my Personal Project to teach preschool-age children about plastic pollution in oceans and actions they can take.
