CAS – Sga – Creativity

 

Recap

 

The SGA has been a large part of my CAS experience this year despite this I have yet to document any of my progress regarding this. I was elected as this year’s vice president a few months ago and since then we have done many things collectively as a student government. We began the year with a spirit week however we had to make certain adjustments due to the situation we were in as a school. Planning larger events such as the OSCars and Gecko Factor has been especially challenging during the COVID-19 times. Despite trying to make the adjustments required we have been unable to successfully bring these plans to fruition. Even with the restrictions we have had to endure we have had weekly meetings with the student representatives and I talk with my fellow student government almost daily about potential new events. We have yet to gain permission for any of these face to face events but now as school has reopened we all aim to do more for our student body. 

 

Current Situation

 

Luckily for us we were finally able to plan F2F events thanks to the school opening back last week. We have not only brought back our plan to host a Gecko Factor but have planned another spirit week where all the students can participate as a school that will be ongoing from April 5th to April 9th. Hopefully this will be a fun way to end the term before our annual April break. So far all that we have been able to accomplish are recycled events which have been done for years. 

 

Goals for future

 

After this break is over and we are back to consistently having face to face school I think we should aim for new ventures and try and explore boundaries which have not been explored by other student governments in OSC’s history. We have discussed the idea of a potentially new format for Gecko Factor and a more impactful spirit week which would focus more on current world issues which are relevant within our society. For now we continue to plan Gecko Factor for after the break and try and help our student body in any way possible. I am excited for this as it is the first time we will be able to break out of online adaptations for school events and we can finally experience SGA to its fullest extent.
