I shot this video on the 21st of October during a training session with my basketball coach, Praneeth Udumalagala (Sri Lankan national basketball team captain). I recorded this with my GoPro Hero 7 Black and used a chest mount and a tripod in order to record in first person but also allow for my coach to record the 1v1 at the end of the session against my training partner, Santi. The purpose of this video was to showcase what we do in our sessions so that he could post it on his instagram account for the business. I do sessions twice a week at my house which help to keep me in shape and also help me improve my basketball skills which will then translate into actual games.
This also directly relates to the activity aspect of CAS as it forced me to get exercise through a sport that I love. I worked a lot on my dribbling skills which will directly improve my performance when playing against others. I also worked on my ability to move on the court to get open when I do not have the ball which is a huge problem as I never really learned how.
LO1: Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth
I learned a lot through the production of this video. It was my first time every using my new GoPro for sports related videos as well as the first time I had ever used a chest mount. I learned about what movements I could capture with the chest mount and the proper angling of the camera as well. This will help me in the future as I am extremely interested in videography and learning about how, when and what to use the camera for is very important as it can help you to create an engaging video. Finally, I learned that I’m quite good at angling tripods for still videos but I do need to work on how I go about recording dynamic videos with my chest mount.
LO5: Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively
Another learning outcome, related to activity, would be learning different ways to create space and get the ball while allowing for your teammates to contribute. I was never good at playing off-ball (when you are on offense and do not have the ball) as I am a very ball dominant player. This will definitely help me when I am playing in college or maybe even professionally in the future as I will not be the best player on the team and will have to prove to my coaches or scouters that I am able to contribute to a team without having the ball constantly. By working collaboratively with Santi and my coach, I was able to demonstrate and improve my skills. If I hadn’t of worked collaboratively, I wouldn’t have been able to work on this area of my game as it is impossible to work without having teammates or other people with you due to the entire point being… moving effectively without the ball.
