Pasta Making – April 3rd, 2021

Over the weekend a group of classmates and I spent some time at another classmate’s house to catch up after not seeing each other outside of school in a while. It was a refreshing experience, especially during these COVID times, as it reminded all of us that there is much more to know about a person than being at school allows for us to show. This particular activity may seem slightly odd, but it will make sense shortly. It was past 10:00 at night and Uber Eats stopped delivering food which meant that we had no way of getting food… unless we made it ourselves. We turned what was a blatant blunder on our part to a fun, and delicious, bonding experience.

The ingredients were;

  1. Pasta
  2. Parmesan
  3. Olive oil
  4. Pepper
  5. Garlic

After about 20 stressful minutes, we finally got to eat our creation. Unfortunately, since the particular classmate that was hosting the meet up was new to the country, there was a lack of bowls. Instead, we improvised and all stole a fork to eat out of one big bowl. This ended up feeding 10 very hungry teenagers and even got very positive feedback, which is not a common compliment from a group of hungry teens.

LO2: Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process

We demonstrated that challenges were undertaken and also developed new skills in the process as, firstly, it was a completely foreign kitchen to all of us. We had to adapt to the kitchen layout and make the most of the ingredients that were available. As stated before, we had no access to delivered food due to our procrastination of ordering which meant that we had to improvise and overcome by making our own food, as well as feeding many others.

LO5: Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively

We also demonstrated the skills and recognized the benefits of working collaboratively as we all had designated roles.

    • Anya – Made and mixed the garlic into the pasta
    • Aman – Stirred the pot & got ingredients
    • Fiona – Got a bowl and utensils & stirred the pot
    • Max – Cut the garlic

Delegating roles was very hectic at first as there were a lot of people who just wanted to ‘watch’ us make the food instead of actually help. Once we figured out everyone’s roles, we made the pasta as efficiently as possible. This was crucial to the success of the night as many people were claiming about the lack of food and if we hadn’t pulled through in time, the rest of the night might’ve been a lot more stressful. In sum, by working collaboratively, we were able to efficiently make the pasta as well as have a fun time and create deeper bonds with one another.

  1. I’m also letting you know that you didn’t put water in the bowl after using it. Making it very unpractical to clean the pot after a few hours.
