year book (2023-2024)

The target for the first session was to brainstorm ideas for the theme of the yearbook cover page.  The first approach that we took to come up with the theme was to answer the question  of (Geckos who are we ??)  And we had written down things like kind, risk-takers, good communicators, welcoming, creative, resilient, and much more. After 20–30 minutes of brainstorming the qualities, we came up with the symbol of infinity and the name of the theme was Geckos Unlimited. We related the symbol of thee to the qualities of the OSC community and how this community packs unlimited creativity. For the remaining time of the session, we brainstormed some ideas on what could be the style of the infinity logo on the cover page. Some of the ideas that were discussed were as follows.  –

  • The infinity logo blended with the word geckos
  • the infinity logo blended with the symbol of geckos
  • infinity logo made by the students of the school and photographed from the top ( This was later changed to a graphic design )
  • in the last few minutes, we looked at some template ideas from Pinterest
Brainstorming Ideas

We were going to use Adobe InDesign for the creation of the pages of the yearbook and I was new to this software so I had to watch some videos and research how to use this software the next step in the process was to choose the various aspects of formatting options for the pages of the yearbook like the text, BG color, size of text and more for the pages and the decision that we came up with Pastel colors specifically (sea foam, bluebird, dusk, lilac, peaches&cream, peon and morning glow), the text that we have chosen is (For Title: Grey cliff CF Bold, Font Size: 30, Grey Cliff CF Regular for text, Font Size =12) Throughout the sessions, I learned a lot about using Adobe InDesign software, mostly related to formatting. For the yearbook, I created the SAISA volleyball event page, and the SAISA girls’ and boys’ volleyball write-up page, and worked with Avin on the DP-2 award assembly pages. Additionally, I collaborated with Avin on the Gecko Factor event pages, where I created the second page and he made the title. Finally, I also worked on the DP-1 Geography trip page. I am looking forward to the yearbook club for next year, feeling confident with the skills I have developed. This year has been a productive experience.
