On this day of the service, we discussed all the projects that we were going to do.  Collectively as a group, we decided that our first project of this year would be to create a compost for the school. At the start of this lesson Jed and Ansel had gone over to Mr Lockwood to talk about his specifications of the compost and he requested the compost to be built in the area behind the science labs moreover to make it out of bamboo. our initial assumption was to go with to go on the idea of using wood as the building material after some discussion we came up with different criteria for the woods like the type of wood that would be able to handle moisture, be termite-proof, and be cost-effective because we were going to use our service money to build the compost, After 15-20min of research we came up with mahogany, teak, and pinewood but we kept bamboo as an option as well. towards the end of the lesson, our group decided that in the next lesson we would Ben, Ansel, Senul, and Mr. Leblonc would go to the nearby wood shop to scout for wood while, Jed, Isa, Sofia, Antuan would learn how to operate all the power-tools in the design lab. at the end of the service I was told to create a table containing all of the activities lists for the service that we had to do this was a  really great start for me as I was starting to participate more in the group discussions and getting work done.

In this session of the service we went according to the plan, we divided into groups but we had to change the location of the shop last minute due to some issue and the new shop we found was closer to the school. As soon as the other students left for the woodshop Me, Jed, Isa, Sofia, and Antuan went to the design room and learned how to use the several power -tools that we could use for the creation of the compost. we learned how to operate the Bansaw, Jigsaw, circular saw, and sander.  the other group sent us the cost for  the different types of wood –

ginisapu (champak tree) 450lkr per square feet
mahogany 750lkr per square feet
albesia 150lkr per square feet
pine wood 100lkr per square feet
gantis 475lkr square post
1-inch thickness
bamboo 300lkr 12 feet

the plan for the next lesson is the decide on which material we are going to use and to teach the people who were not here how to use the power tools in the lab.
