CAS Final Reflection
Activity:
Over the past two years, I’ve been actively involved in various activities, particularly sports. I competed in two SAISA volleyball tournaments and one SAISA football tournament. Additionally, I renewed my commitment to personal fitness and started training at the gym again. Through these activities, I gained significant self-awareness, especially during my second volleyball season. I identified my strengths and weaknesses, focusing on improving my skills as a Libero since it was my final opportunity to play volleyball for the school. One key area of growth was my receiving technique while diving. Under the guidance of my coach, Mr. Janaka, and through numerous practice sessions, I pushed myself beyond my comfort zone to master this challenging technique. It proved invaluable during critical moments in games. Furthermore, I took the initiative to become self-aware about my laziness, which was evident in my inconsistent gym training. Despite the demanding schedule of preparing for IB examinations, I aimed to develop a balanced routine that accommodated both my studies and fitness goals.
Creativity:
For creativity, it would be best to revisit my internship with my classmates Akash and Vinuda. Before embarking on the internship, I had assumed that stockbrokers were largely concerned with evaluating numerical data in Excel spreadsheets and producing presentations based on their conclusions. However, on the fifth day of my internship, my perspective had greatly expanded. My mentor set up a site visit to acquire a better understanding of a potential investment. We investigated a 72,000-square-meter warehouse commissioned by Access Engineering for Michelin tires. This experience demonstrated the varied nature of stockbroking, emphasizing the value of hands-on evaluations and direct contact with the firms we explored for investment. This adjustment of perspective-taking allowed me to comprehend the industry’s larger and more dynamic elements.
Service:
At OSC, service is about working together, and in my service group, Gecko Network, collaboration is key to our productivity throughout the year. For example, covering two SAISA events held on our home grounds required a high level of teamwork. While I was taking pictures of the games, we needed to quickly create Instagram stories right after each game ended to keep the broader OSC community informed. This fast-paced process of taking photos and producing stories relied heavily on the support of other members. Additionally, with the leaders of Gecko Network being DP2 students busy preparing for exams, it was essential for the younger members to step up and work together to maintain the quality and goals of our service.
