MUN New beginnings – UN Day

I have been actively participating in MUN this semester now. Unlike last year, where I couldn’t resume my MUN experience this year I have been hoping to continue MUN on the technical side as the tech team. Meanwhile, we have been focusing more on UN day, where the focus was to teach everyone SDG 16 – Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions.

SDG 16, part of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals, focuses on promoting peaceful and inclusive societies for sustainable development, providing access to justice for all, and building effective, accountable, and inclusive institutions at all levels.

To teach everyone, we had to come up with an iterated lesson plan which would be specific to the grade level. This planning was done during ASAs, on Monday after school.  Each one of us was divided into small groups to plan these lessons according to the   grade. me and my group were tasked to plan lesson for DP 2 and myp 1-2. Of course this was quite challenging, because the way we planned lesson would have to be different for these grades. We figured that for DP2 the lessons should be much more informative whereas for lowers MYP grades its better to have a fun lesson to match their intellect levels and attention span.

Finally, we planned a comprehensive 1 hour 30-min lesson over SDG 16 for each grade. I was going to teach MYP 1, and for that purpose we designed a basic presentation coupled with poster making on what a strong institution might seem like to an MYP kid. This simple yet interactive activity allowed them to explore the meaning of an institution.

During the process of presenting to MYP kids during UN day I undertook the following learning outcomes:

LO2: Demonstrate the challenges have been taken, which in this case was me preparing notes and slides for the kids. And developing new skills in the process, in the form of public speaking.

LO4:  Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences, when I stuck on to this whole process for 2 months.
