Creativity:

Participating in drama and music has been instrumental in accomplishing most of my senior creativity goals. My involvement in the production of Antigone Now in December 2022 not only allowed me to showcase my acting abilities but also helped me identify and improve my drama skills (LO1: Identify your own strengths and develop areas for personal growth). Through this experience, I honed my collaborative skills by working closely with the cast and crew, fostering effective teamwork and communication (LO5: Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively).

The Spring Gala that was held in April 2023 gave me the opportunity to perform with the choir. This performance helped me recognize and appreciate my vocal abilities, providing valuable insight into my vocal range and its comparison to the rest of the choir. It improved my communication skills, including projection, articulation, and stage presence, as I had to deliver my singing performance effectively to the audience with a sense of artistic expression. 

Both of these creative experiences have equipped me with invaluable knowledge and skills for future endeavors. It has enhanced my self-awareness, fostered collaboration, and developed my adaptability. These experiences have deepened my appreciation for the arts and laid a strong foundation for continued creative pursuits. Furthermore, they have boosted my confidence in performing before an audience.

Activity:

For my senior activity goals, I have successfully achieved them by consistently participating in swimming on a weekly basis (LO4: Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences). Despite increased work and stress, the few hours I devote to swimming not only boost my energy but also function as a stress-relieving pastime. Swimming helps me relax my mind and concentrate on maintaining my body muscles.

In addition to my weekly swimming sessions, I have actively incorporated workout sessions into my routine. These additional exercise sessions, held either in the mornings or evenings, play a vital role in my overall well-being. Engaging in workouts not only keeps my body physically active but also enhances my mental alertness. By engaging in these workouts, I find myself better equipped to tackle the various challenges and responsibilities that come my way. The exercise serves as a means of awakening my senses, helping me remain focused and less susceptible to distractions.

Service:

In terms of service, I have achieved significant accomplishments primarily through collaboration with my service group, Justice and Equality, of which I served as the leader (LO4: Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences). Our group has undertaken a diverse range of activities, including fundraising initiatives and a sanitary product drive. This year marked a fresh beginning as we changed our service group’s name from Girls for Girls to Justice and Equality, with the objective of promoting inclusiveness.

While we were unable to physically meet or engage in activities with Emerge Lanka, an organization supporting female victims of sexual abuse, our service group proactively planned and executed various other endeavors to raise awareness on issues such as sexual abuse and gender inequality (LO7: Recognize and consider the ethics of choices and actions). One notable initiative involved my CAS project, which entailed creating and distributing t-shirts embellished with symbols, images, or quotes promoting women’s empowerment, gender equality, and combatting sexual abuse (LO3: Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience). Additionally, we participated in commemorating Women’s Week as a whole school, organizing a range of activities including a bake sale to raise funds, a quiz focused on women’s empowerment, a drawing event, and a friendly football game.

Although most of these activities were limited to our school community, I aspire to expand their reach and serve the broader world by raising awareness among future acquaintances and actively addressing instances of sexual abuse or gender inequality (LO6: Demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance).
