Creativity in Quarantine

One of the aspects of quarantine that is positive is having the time to learn new skills. A majority of the skills that I learnt are creatively inclined and are things that I likely would not have done unless I were in quarantine.

Learning the guitar:

After over a month in quarantine I decided to start learning how to play the guitar using youtube videos and help from my sister. So far, I have begun learning the different chords needed in order to play and strumming techniques. The first song that I learnt was the baseline to “Pumped Up Kicks” and I am attempting to continue to expand my selection.

Singing:

Due to COVID-19, the spring gala where our VOICE ensemble was going to perform got cancelled. Despite this, I continued to practice singing in order to help improve myself. Although I have not been practicing the songs from VOICE, I am learning new songs that I could potentially perform solo next year if I have the confidence to do so.

Baking:

At the beginning of quarantine I started to bake for myself in order to pass the time, this included baking cinnamon rolls, brownies, matcha brownies and quiche. Although baking seems straightforward, due to curfew the first couple weeks many ingredients weren’t available and therefore we had to be creative when cooking and baking any food.
