Curfew Fitness

Before quarantine due to COVID-19, I was trying out for the SAISA girls basketball team. I enjoy exercise and sport but I generally participate in team settings with support from coaches and teammates. Therefore, I knew that staying fit was going to be a struggle as I needed self motivation and determination in order to maintain my fitness.

Fortunately, I am living in an apartment that is able to keep both the gym and the swimming pool open and therefore am exercise using that. During the first couple of weeks I woke up at 7am and went down the gym for a run before school started, however, I found myself getting bored very quickly. Therefore, I decided to find ways to diversify my training using the hills in the parking garage to run up and do interval training, doing home HIIT workouts from youtube and running up the 40-flight staircase in the apartment. Once I incorporated different kinds of workouts I was significantly more motivated to workout everyday except for Sunday.

Then, once curfew was relaxed I was able to go on a run close to my house. Using strava, I calculated that the distance of the road I run on is almost exactly 400m, therefore I complete 5 loops (800m there and back) in order to reach 4km every time I run. On days that I do not want to run I still enjoy going on a walk down the road in order to spend more time outside safely
