For several weeks ReefKeepers and the Recycling and Sustainability service group were collaborating to plan Earth Week in order to honour the international Earth Day on Wednesday the 22nd of April. We were organising an assembly, a guest speaker, activities, and a whole school spirit week. Unfortunately, shortly before Earth Week school was cancelled due to the curfew imposed in response to COVID-19.
On Thursday, Ms. Clover scheduled a meeting for the ReefKeepers to discuss plans and we decided we wanted to go forth in planning Earth Week but adapt it to quarantine circumstances. Then we joined a Zoom call with Ms. Clover (the Reefkeepers supervision), Talia and I (the Reefkeepers service leaders), Lexi and Darja, and Ms. Chee Wan (the Primary school environmental club supervisor) in order to discuss the plan prior to Earth Week. After this we made a final plan for both primary and secondary school and completed our delegated tasks.
Our decision was to have a theme for each day that was related to an SDG: Monday’s theme was Water, Tuesday’s Air, Wednesday’s Earth, Thursday’s Flora, and Friday’s theme was Fauna. Then, based on the theme we created activities and spirit ideas that people could post onto a padlet that Alex made. My role was to send out daily emails that listed information about the SDG, activity suggestions with links, spirit suggestions and a link to the padlet for all 5 days.
