Gardening with the expert

My gardening adventure (featuring my brother)

Over the past few months, had taken to gardening in his free time. Being a bit less of a hands-on person, I didn’t quite engage in this activity. However (after 15 minutes of him bugging me) I decided to finally help out my brother with his garden.

I was rather reluctant at first – it was very sunny outside – but, eventually, I got into the groove of digging through the soil to help my brother replant curry trees. This was a bit difficult, the curry trees had grown quite well and required more space, so they were pretty heavy to carry. But, ultimately, looking back at the hard work that we had done made me feel very accomplished.

My favorite part was shaping some of the trees, my dad tends to do this quite often but today it was my brother and me. Admittedly, I was pretty nervous about accidentally cutting off too many twigs and destroying the trees beyond retribution! But, in the end, by carefully considering the tree shape I was able to carry this activity out without demolishing any trees!

I definitely exercised my patience a lot when gardening, it was hard work that required teamwork with my brother to carry out efficiently.

Gardening wasn’t something that I initially thought I’d enjoy very much, however, when talking and digging through the soil, I realized that it was actually a great bonding activity – and I had tons of fun! I’m quite glad that I was convinced into joining my brother because I want to help him with his garden in the future as well with this.

Learning outcomes:

  • LO2 – Challenge & skills
    • It was a challenge to start gardening at first, but I think that by using patience and the determination to successfully carry out this activity – I was able to pull through!
    • My brother was definitely an expert in gardening when compared to me, therefore, I believe that I was able to obtain certain gardening skills from him.
  • LO4 – Working collaboratively with others
    • Parts such as replanting the curry trees definitely required teamwork, and I felt super satisfied when helping my brother carry this hard work out.
    • We had to communicate quite a lot during this gardening session, and I believe that – as aforementioned – it was a great bonding activity.
