The presentations thus far with Room To Read’s Books N’ Cookies

Books N’ Cookies has been going extremely well this quarter, we’ve had a multitude of extremely interesting presenters who are always very well-received by the OSC community. The topics of discussion during the Books N’ Cookies sessions have ranged from gender inequity to ornithology to the ILO!

For these sessions, usually Eleez, and I make posters outlining some fast facts about the presenter, their topic, and the date for the session. I believe it’s quite impressive to see how efficient Eleez and I have become at making these posters. These posters are then put up on the Daily Bulletin.

Occasionally, we will also introduce the presenter on the day of – this last Books N’ Cookies session, however, we started off with Stefan (introducing his dad).

All-in-all, I think that these sessions are going quite well, I’m particularly proud of the diversity in topics of presentation that we have come across. Join us next Wednesday for Books N’ Cookies with Ms. Anjali Watson on leopard conservation in Sri Lanka.

Learning outcomes:

  • LO3 – Initiative & planning
    •   Since last year, Books N’ Cookies has become a consistent way for me to engage with my creative and service side every week. Thus, I am able to take initiative and plan things such as publicity posters and introductions.
    • This learning outcome is also exhibited in the way I plan on continuing with Room To Read and Books N’ Cookies constantly until graduation (which is in about 6 months?!?!).
  • LO4 – Working collaboratively with others
    • Eleez and I have to collaborate when making the posters promoting Books N’ Cookies and I believe that we do this very efficiently.
    • Making these posters (usually over Zoom) requires considerable communication on how we want to format and play around with the features.
