Final CAS Reflection

It is that time of the year, 18 months of my High school life slowly coming to an end and the first thing, I have to say goodbye to is CAS. CAS has been one of the best and most interesting thing as being a student in the Overseas School of Colombo, especially for our batch that was challenged the most being the most of our high school experience online and our final months and weeks of DP2 physically. During these last 2 years I learnt different types of Creative, Active ways to be helpful in the area of service, staying fit and not do the same repetitive business always I try to do. This CAS over the last two years will be cover all of the interesting, crazy and life learning of my high school career

Creativity

For the last two years I have worked and improved on different types of skills that have helped me and will help me in the future as I am going to Uni. Some of these skills to name a few include trying out my Sri Lankan drum to make some tunes, joining ISTA, the ESS diyasaru wetland visits and my most favourite appreciating the small hangouts and interactions with mates from my old school and my family. Since I will be starting Uni this fall one of the biggest things I am going to miss is  my family but its also other things like the time when I fixed my bike when the chain snapped. Well to help me with me with bike situations I will come across, I will be following my fellow peer Liam and our DP2 teachers who gave our class a complete run through on what to do and not to do when changing a tire on a “rodie” and how to put the tire back in place. The other interesting I had done during my in the walls of OSC is express my emotions, facial expression and movement using Theatre for my STP (the final task to kind of wrap up the entire thing). For this the most interesting part for me was to explore my boundaries and find ways to push my limits when it comes to being a performer, director, Lighting director etc… In terms of helping my family with things around the house when our Roomba stopped working due to a wheel problem. I took the initiative to come forward and work on it. My dad known in his mind that he is genius on tech told me numerous occasions that my theory on switching the wheel motor from an old unit to the new one would not work and basically the entire operation would be a complete failure and unsuccessful, well sometimes the statements parents might need to challenged. Finally my best Creative work of all was the CAS project I recently did exploring the historical locations in and around city of Colombo. The purpose of that project was to give my target audience (cyclists and tourists) to do two things at once which is give a historical sector of the city of Colombo and enjoy the by roads and other pathways cycling. Overall creativity was the easiest sector to cover with being in a lockdown for the last two years and etc..

Activity

Activity was a bit of struggle to get started with due to the Lockdown from the COVID Massacre. Before COVID some of the activities I took to try and stay fit was joining the Impact Basketball group and another one called True Basketball. The objective from one academy training was to help its players with game type situations meaning when the right moment to make a pass how to play five a side, when to use zone, man to man etc.. On the other hand the objective for Impact was whilst doing game type scenario could you try to input some skill into the process and try to push your limits as a player and see what the result would be. Over the course of 18 months I had followed both academies using their strategy until the major bombshell hit, COVID, AIYOOOOOOOOO, everything just went south from there, I did not have the enthusiasm to exercise, basketball courts were not open, the academies were not making classes, it was a complete disaster. Fast forward to 2020 November I finally got the opportunity to go out and practice. After being in home for 6 to 8 months it was tuff to shoot shots and start getting in the zone but eventually it worked out and it was a smooth sail. With my activity logs I made the choice that each entry I put forward would be different as not put forward in the format of a repetition simply because I thought every single activity log would be just Basketball and nothing else, which would be very boring. So I changed it up a little one of the logs I am proud of and I went out of my comfort zone is the one on ATV in Colombo and Dubai. ATV are a very difficult to steer and this the case no matter the terrain. The one I attended in SL was a simple one where the ride was about  40 mins in the mountains of Gampaha. The most difficult part for me in the SL one was going down this hill which on the ATV was really high but after pushing my boundaries more broader and wider it was very easy to go down that ramp and reach ground level. For the one I did in Dubai however that was much more difficult because those were dune buggies so the level of focus had to be really intense and if you make a mistake chances of you loosing control would be detrimental. Whilst having adrenaline rushes with the ATV and other activities I was able to stay active during the difficult times.

Service

Hope for Kids was a very interesting and fun service group to be apart of. Joined the group since 2018 the vibe check for this service group was putting a smile on Children’s faces who have been diagnosed. When I joined the group for the first time one of the biggest emotions that hit me was sorrow because as they are taking all that medication certain fun times rarely come as something that brightens which was what we were there to help them and provide with the necessary food and income. Back in 2019, the hope for kids group did so many interesting drives and toys that were being sent out to the CCC (the cancer hospice). The last drive the group did was a food drive where we got together all of the funds that were out there and gave the parents in the Hospice a list of essentials which were mainly groceries like milk powder, rice, green gram etc.. Once COVID trying to go to the CCC house was very difficult because if one of us contracted COVID it would put their lives in jeopardy. On zoom we made different toys like a mini Christmas story and loom bands. Once school opened we came together and did our Cricket drive between the teachers and staff. From that we made a good income. The next thing the group is planning is to go the CCC which if it happens it would be after 3 years. In conclusion My CAS was an unforgettable experience and I enjoyed my 18 months of going to school and my 7 years being in this school.
