On the 12th of November, we has the first service meeting as SOS Village. We have about 13 members this time around. It was an amazing start as we introduced ourselves to each other, we watched an introduction video to the SOS Village itself and leart in great detail about what they stand for and what the purpose of our service group is. We discussed our goals and ground rules such as, Always having our camera on as protocol for service and to be respectful to the SOS village students. Our goals this year is to advance their english skills and make sure that they are well engaged during service through different english learning activities and other fun items planned for them. As the service leader, I chaired the meeting and made sure everyone had some form of input so that they feel included and engaged in the service-learning program. We has some open discussions on what we are looking forward to and what we need to take into consideration in order to be better. The group of people in SOS Village this semester are extremely engaged and show a clear passion for the service and that was very good to see. We had some amazing ideas coming from all members as to how we will carry out this service online. Such as reading them children’s storybooks, the importance of visuals in those books, playing Kahoot and much more. It was a very productive and engaging service session, and as Homework for everybody, we decided to make a list of children’s story books that are basic and have 50/50 of text and visuals so we are able to plan lessons for the SOS Village children. I felt that I grew as a leader and continue to grow through every service lesson. The CAS learning outcomes involved in this CAS experience are: LO2, LO3, LO4, LO5, LO6, LO7.
Here is the video we showed as an introduction to the SOS Village.
