Satwik's Journey Through IBDP

DP 1 CAS GOALS

CAS stands for Creativity, Activity and Service which is one of the core of the IB Diploma Programme. It is an important component of the students taking the IB Diploma. The CAS programme helps students studying the in the IB to have a balance between academics, sports, creativity and activity.  The CAS programme really gives me the opportunity to try out new activities, learn new skills and accept challenges. Here are my goals for CAS this year: –

Creativity

Boys Voice – In our school there’s a creative activity called boys voice which takes place during the Thursday Lunch time for 45 mins. In this activity, a bunch of boys from grades 6- 12 gather around and sing songs. The boys voice participates in the winter gala and the spring gala which takes place in the academic year. This year we are preparing just for the spring gala because the winter is occupied with the school production. Singing was something which I really loved doing when I was in primary school. I used to perform as the lead singer but as I got into the middle school, I didn’t have a opportunity to sing because of the school I was in. I also haven’t really performed on the stage for a long time now so I am getting out of my comfort zone and hopefully become more confident performing in front of an audience. So this year I am really excited to be a part of the boys voice and have the opportunity to sing at a school event. So basically the goals for boys voice this year are:

To participate and sing at the spring gala

Become a confident singer

Become confident performing in front of an audience.

Student Government Association (SGA) – The OSC SGA is a group that meets on Wednesdays during lunch. The SGA is a great opportunity for me to explore leadership skills because I have never been a part of a student government or been a leader for an activity. This year I was chosen to be a representative of my grade alongside Alex and Tanay. My responsibilities being a grade representative is to communicate ideas of my grade(regarding maybe an SGA event) to the SGA. I would also contribute and work collaboratively with other members in decision making and planning when there will be SGA events( Such as Pep rally, Prom, Social nights, etc.)  by attending the meetings weekly. So overall this opportunity will help me to take that leadership role and get out of my comfort zone as I have never been a part of something like this. I will be doing this throughout the year.

Meditative Coloring – Meditative coloring is a creative activity that takes place on Monday after school. I have chosen to do this activity as a way to relieve stress in this rigorous curriculum and maintain my wellbeing. The activity is a really fun time and involves coloring different posters. My aim is to complete 10 coloring cards by the end of the 2nd ASA’s block.

Activity

Body Conditioning– Body Conditioning is an activity that takes place every Monday after school for an hour which helps you stay fit. I have decided to do this activity for the semester to get back into better shape after the summer vacation and also to have a healthy lifestyle. I will do this only for the first After School Activity session alongside volleyball.

SAISA Boys Volleyball– SAISA is a sports competition that brings 10 schools from the Indian Continent together for a sports tournament. Volleyball is a sport that I played for the first time in 10th Grade. I joined SAISA volleyball last year (10th grade) in which I was a weak player because it was my first time doing it and my techniques were poor. This year I am doing the SAISA volleyball again. I enjoy playing this sport and want to continue to improve my skills (such as footwork, passing etc) and just get better at the sport. I will also try out for the SAISA team and see how it goes.

SAISA Badminton and Private Badminton Sessions– SAISA Badminton will take place in the 3rd session of After School Activities. Last year I tried to get into the team but I lost a couple of matches and just missed out on making it. This year, since SAISA Badminton has shifted to the 3rd Session. I will not be participating in any SAISA’s during the 2nd session of ASA’s and so I have decided to join a badminton club outside of school during this time to improve my game. So when the 3rd Session of ASA’s come I could maybe make my way into the SAISA team.

Service

OSC’s Reef keepers – In our school we have a bunch of different service groups focusing on different issues. Service takes place every Thursdays for an hour. This year I decided I wanted to do something related to environment because I feel really guilty about how we treat our planet Earth. There are two service groups in our school which focus heavily on Environment which is Sustainability which helps with recycling of waste and Reef keepers which focuses on reduction of plastic usage to keep the sea free from plastic. I went for the Reef keepers because I was really sold on this idea of reducing plastic in our community and beyond to free the sea from plastic. This year our service group is focusing on having a neighborhood sweep which is going around our school neighborhood and collecting plastic and sending it to companies to shame them for plastic usage. Another goal this year is to make our campus a plastic free campus and we will be taking the steps required to have a plastic free campus. We will also be doing beach sweeps and spreading awareness about plastic usage. I am super excited to be a part of this amazing service group and happy to somehow help our planet Earth.
