As everyone who does IB know, the CAS project is the biggest need to complete this subject. When I started brainstorming, one thing I have always liked is films, whether it was watching them or creating films (in this case, my YouTube channel) and as someone who wants to study film after graduating high school, I decided the perfect idea for a CAS Project would be to make a short film titled “We Were Girls Together”. This was the best idea as I’ve gotten to enjoy the process of directing since I did the Production Proposal unit in DP1 Theatre and directing the Middle School Production months after.
The Plot of It All
After a long process of brainstorming different plot ideas, I’ve decided the final plot. I wanted to have a small cast, only 2 people. I also wanted to have a coming of age vibe, something that a portion of people my age or in high school in general can relate to. With this, the plot of my short film is 2 best friends slowly fall in love throughout the short film, but one of the girls learns that she’s leaving the country. Basically right person, not enough time. I thought this plot would be the best as my first film because like I said, this is something that a portion of people my age or in high school in general can relate to. Especially for me, making this kind of hit home for me.
The Cast
My top 2 choices, Hadiya and Naomi, were absolutely amazing. Even though there were so many moments I was secretly and silently stressing out (not because of them of course, but because I thought I wouldn’t be able to finish on time), I wouldn’t have it any way. Especially how cooperative they have been, from bringing all their outfits to filming sessions to learning their lines as much as they can.
Naomi plays a character named Gianna, the girl who falls first, more head over heels I would say. While Hadiya plays a character named Ivy, the girl who learns that she’s leaving the country, moving away from Gianna.
Both of these characters were depending on the actors, Naomi wanted someone who was more confident while Hadiya is leaving Sri Lanka at the end of the school year.
Editing
After sorting out all the filming, it was time for me to edit it all. After realizing that iMovie may not work for this project and after so much struggling to find the perfect movie editing software, I finally found a movie editing software: Movavi Video Editor 24. This movie editing software did wonders to my short film. I’m so proud of how everything turned out !
Final Product
Everyone I know has been asking when the short film will be released and when they get to see it. All I got to say is …. hopefully soon !!!!!
