CAS Goals

As I begin my CAS journey, I have outlined a few goals for myself. These goals involve the activities that I have been dedicated to for a few years, in order to constantly develop my skills and knowledge, I need to challenge myself!

CREATIVE:

Colombo Model United Nations
UN Day 2017 (Credits:Anuda)

This year, I was assigned a new position as secretary-general of the Colombo Model United Nations. This role specifically requires a great deal of responsibility and commitment towards organizing the conference and making sure the people involved in COMUN have a great experience. My main goal as Secretary-General is to improve conference by organizing delegate workshops, study guides for novice delegates and implementing chair training so chairs know the procedure but also how to support their committees. This goal is important to me because I want to make the conference run as smoothly as possible and also provide delegates with all the resources as well as tools they need to have effective debates. I hope to implement all of these activities by the first practice debate which will be in February. I will achieve this goal by working alongside Mrs. Jasmine and my secretariat to plan ahead on how to train delegates and chairs. I will also constantly be consulting previous delegates on how their experience in COMUN was and more importantly, what they would change to improve COMUN.

VOICE

I have been involved in voice for two years and will continue to participate as I enjoy singing and performing. I always set goals for how I can improve in this activity and do not plan on stopping. For my third year, I want to participate more by auditioning for solos and taking more challenging parts. The reason I set this goal is because I feel as though I am not challenging myself enough during this activity because of my lack of confidence. I want to improve my confidence and singing by taking more opportunities that are offered.  I will achieve this by practicing my singing with Mrs. Duncan outside of Voice in order to improve my range. I hope to have solo parts within our songs during the Winter and Spring Galas. If a solo part is offered when we sing a song, I will audition for it!

ACTIVITY:

SAISA Volleyball:

I am participating in volleyball this year despite not being able to travel due to other commitments. I chose to do this because I find that fitness is important for my health both physically and mentally. Therefore, I want to set a goal to ensure my consistent participation by attending practices at least twice a week (Tuesdays and Saturdays). This is important for me to grow as a volleyball player as well as support the team for games and drills. I will do this until volleyball season is over which is in October. I want to make sure that I am balanced throughout the year and sports is not just important for my physical self but it acts as an outlet for stress I may have. I want to especially focus on improving things like my serve, footwork, and speed.

SAISA Soccer

I plan on trying out for soccer this year as I have participated in it for the past 2 years. I may not have enough time to travel as well as balance my other roles but similarly to volleyball, I want to maintain a source of fitness. I enjoy soccer very much and constantly want to familiarize myself with the sport since I only started playing it in my freshman year. My goal for soccer is to improve my ability to maintain a defensive line since I feel as though I am not confident with this skill. I want to be able to guide the defense by calling and keeping the line, I want to do this by the end of the season which will be in February. To achieve this goal, I will work with Mr.O’Sullivan on my form during each practice as well as work with my defense peers to build a good dynamic.

SAISA Basketball

For the third sports season, I plan on trying out for the Girls SAISA basketball team. My main goal is to make the team and be able to play as a point guard by the time we play at SAISA. I will do this by practicing a range of point guard drills and fixing my shooting form during SAISA training sessions and in my own time as well. I want to achieve this because I have been on the basketball team since grade eight and have been experimenting with my skill in all positions but found that I really enjoy shooting. I feel that in order to play this position, my shooting needs to be stronger, I also need to work on my speed and endurance which I plan to achieve through specific drills.

Water Skiing

I have been taking water skiing lessons since I was ten years old, I have no plan to stop any time soon! I want to continue these lessons as I love spending time in the water and in Bentota. My goal is to master jumps on the wakeboard as well as to ski at a faster speed. I want to achieve these goals so that I can get to a more advanced level of water sports. I want to achieve these goals by the time that I graduate which will be in two years. I plan to do this by going to ski lessons every Sunday and practicing for one and a half hours.

SERVICE:

Girls For Girls
Emerge Center Graduation 2019

This year I was elected service leader of Girls for Girls along with Savindi in grade 12. I am extremely excited to take on a leadership role for a service that is very important to me. I have generated many ideas and inherently, some goals that I want to achieve this year. My main goal is to plan sessions that develop English skills with the girls from emerge. This is because I feel as though we have many resources at school that could be useful to their life skill development and English is a skill that they could use when they enter the workforce. I want to achieve this goal by planning regular sessions that are dedicated to English reading and writing. In terms of resources, I plan to use the books in the library and online linguistic tools that we as students have access to. I want to make these sessions consistent through the years I will be a part of the Girls for Girls service but also for when I am gone and new leaders will be in charge. I hope to get the sessions started by November 2019.
