During Self Isolation, Music is All I Need

Ahoy mates! Welcome to the fourth entry of my quarantine journal!

This most likely will be my last entry while social distancing so make sure to go check out my previous blogs on fun activities to do while social distancing, if you haven’t already! And what better way to write the final chapter of my quarantine journal than on music? So yes, this blog will look at some fun activities I’ve been doing on the musical side of things.

I’ve been taking this time off school to play the guitar more frequently and to actually try out singing. As you may already be aware from me previous blogs, I have been a diligent guitarist over the past few years, however, due to the now-cancelled upcoming final IB exams, I resigned from my position in the classical guitar ensemble in OSC. But now that I have nothing to stop me, I have invested countless hours into improving my skills once more but mostly, just enjoying the feel of playing my instruments again. One of my favorite pass-times on the guitar is to compose mashups; I do this by creating a simple chord progression and singing various songs that I feel would match to the tempo and key. I have never been overly confident about my singing skills but nonetheless, it is something I do with great passion. Given the free time, I have also enjoyed singing various pop songs with a backing track and below is a recording of my favorite song to sing.

There’s not much left to say other than the fact that, despite living in such a troubling time, I am proud of myself for finding time and energy to invest into other things in life to not simply occupy myself but to enjoy and make valuable happy memories during this period both by myself and with my family.
