Spring Gala 2019; Take 2

If the music is too loud, then you’re too old.”

OSC’s classical guitar ensemble is back again for the annual Spring Gala, held in April, and this time, we performed two pieces: Take 5 and Volaré! It’s been three years now since I’ve joined the ensemble and this is the first time that I received a solo section in a piece: for Volaré, I am playing the chords and for Take 5, I play the base for the chorus and play a solo section for the verse alternatively with Josh!

Challenges were undertaken this time, given how I haven’t ever played a solo section before so I was quite nervous because if I messed up, everyone would hear it clearly but I was excited and practiced the piece repeatedly until perfection and in the end, I didn’t make any mistakes!

A challenge during the performance was that the mics vibrated and made the sound unclear so we couldn’t hear ourselves playing making it difficult to keep track. We were quite disappointed eventually because it wasn’t as successful as we wanted it to be. However, the audience members said it was really good, meaning that, despite the challenge, we the audience didn’t find any major mistakes with our performance which is great! Of course this wouldn’t have been possible if we hadn’t worked collaboratively and since we all had practiced together so much, it really did pay of despite the technical difficulties! Gala was fun and less stressful than last time since I didn’t join Backstage Crew this time around (I’m so glad I didn’t) but it was a rewarding experience and I can’t wait for the next school Gala!

Till next time!
