SAISA Basketball 2019

Tuesday 13, December 6 / Colombo, Sri Lanka

SAISA Basketball is a yearly tournament I participated in last year. It is a competition where teams from schools all over South Asia to play basketball games against each other. SAISA tournaments are the ideal option for an activity for CAS as the experience that

On our first practice, Coach Praneeth introduced us to his co-coach, KT, an ex-boxing coach who would help train some of us in preparation for SAISA. We were split up into two groups and I was with KT for the rest of the training season.

We lost our first game with 53 turnovers, a number we would remember as our punishment was a workout with 53 push-ups, sit-ups, burpees, squats, jumping jacks and 53 made free throws. This only came after the 53 suicides and other painful exercises we went through the practice directly after the game.

Our next and last game before the choosing of the team was my final chance to prove myself good enough. I did not. While I did a lot better than the first game, playing better defence and getting rebounds, even scoring a point, I did not end up making the team. Instead, I joined the other flotsams in training the selected team by subtly beating them up during a game with no fouls.

SAISA basketball was an opportunity to grow and strengthen my basketball skills and overall fitness, which I believe I managed to do fairly well. I will continue to practice until next year when I can hopefully try out for the team and make it.
