— Vidyaloka school musical performance

On the 7th of December Room to Read held a musical performance at the Overseas School of Colombo, hosting Vidyaloka school children as well as inviting a number of students and parents from OSC to perform. During this time we had a large OSC audience in the library with a significant audience from OSC coming to watch.

The main goals for the musical performances was to both provide an avenue for local school children from Viyaloka to perform in front of an audience, while simultaneously raising money for the construction of the Viyaloka school library. To this end, our group set up donation boxes, encouraging the OSC community to donate to our cause, helping provide valuable reading resources to the local community. Additionally we ran a bake sale where we sold a number of baked goods to the audience, raising more money for the construction project.

Overall I think the performance was a successful event, attracting a large crowd and raising over LKR___. Additionally, as a service leader, I was in charge of heading the event, addressing the performers and the audience with regard to timings and donations, all of which served as a valuable experience for my public speaking.
