My CAS Goals
My class and I are preparing for an intense two years ahead of us in the IB diploma. With lots of work on our hands, it is difficult for us to engage in other activities outside of school and stay balanced. As a part of the IB curriculum, we have had huge shifts in how our classes and schedule work. Because of this, the IB requires us to be able to present that we (individually) are able to engage in other activities outside of class. This is called CAS which stands for creativity, activity, and service. These are the three main components of CAS which we have to be able to engage in so that we can balance our considerable academic work.
With a new year comes new changes, and this year is no different, in fact, it’s gotten even more strange. With the rise of COVID-19, there have been more restraints to many activities for us (for instance competitive sports). But this is a great way for us as individuals to help control how we react and learn how to adapt to changes.
With my CAS goals, I focused on activities that I enjoy but also can be able to learn and expand my knowledge on.
Creativity goal. As a beginner bassist and guitarist, I am quite new in the world of music. However, I am determined to improve as much as possible. I hope that by the end of the school year that I have learned different styles and forms of playing on the bass and guitar (Funk, Jazz, etc). I may consider joining a possible band or ensemble as part of the CAS experience. I hope to develop new skills and develop areas that I struggle with or am curious about learning.
For my Activity goal, I decided to focus on personal fitness. For me, I hope to improve my swimming endurance but in order to do that, I have to plan and prepare my swim routine and stay determined while doing the exercise. I hope to have exercised at least five times a week either in the morning or evening. However, swimming is not just what I will do. I can also use a variety of other activities including biking and badminton. This will work on my strengths and skills which I need to work on as well as my ability to persevere/ stay engaged.
For the Service goal, I tend to work on more technological items which is why I contribute to the Gecko Net group. I hope that by the end of this year I will have contributed at least 30 photos which will be used either through the gecko news, the yearbook, etc. I hope to develop my leadership skills and communication abilities.
