Biking Trip on the Kelani Loop – 18 October 2020

For me as much as I like staying indoors and working on technological activities, I still enjoy it when I can spend some time outdoors. For me, biking is a great way for me to let my mind wander while still maintaining a balanced body.

With Covid-19 making life difficult my family decided to invite some friends of ours over for a bike ride across to the Kelani River to help lighten the mood. Our trip had originally been planned to be just a short 2-hour ride but with us all being so enthusiastic to get out of the house we decided to extend it to a 5 and a half hour trip! The trip went all over from the soggy wetlands to the steep and gravel roads. The trip first started on the main road where we road by a canal which was around 5 km long. Although at first there was nothing interesting, the trip to a turn into a much more interesting adventure when we biked on the outskirts of the main road going into these lesser-used roads which allowed us to see more of the community in Sri Lanka.

Our trip led us to later enjoy some coconut water and its jelly inside while we all got to take a short break as our legs were now sore. But still, we continued on for our goal was to reach the Kelani river and so with heavy hearts and sore legs we continued. Our trip leads us to many interesting situations in which we had to carry our bikes over a bridge that went over the Kelani river and another was when we had to bike on a steep edge which would result in us falling into the river if we made a mistake. But overall the trip was exciting and a thrilling experience.

By the time we had arrived back at our home, the sun was setting and we all knew we would probably not be walking the next day.
