Louis' CAS Journey

The mystery of human existance lies not in staying alive, but in finding something to live for – Fyodor Dostoevsky

Meditative coloring semester 1

This semester Meditative coloring has been a highly useful activity for me. Iv used the silent and focused nature of the sessions to procure an almost meditative state of consciousness. I find the time very useful to relieve the stress of working constantly, to have a small piece of time to put work aside and focus intensely on something that relieves stress.

Lately I have decided to use markers instead of coloring with pencils in my sessions. This has made a massive difference as with pencils the task of coloring was much more vigorous and much less relaxing as I tried to squash the pencil into every crevice of the outline. Now however, with color pens I feel relaxed while coloring as I can color without applying much pressure and it more a question of wiping between the lines rather than having to put effort into the act of coloring.

I have found it quite enlightening how the focus I attribute to the act of coloring distracts me from all other thoughts. This in turn creates a relaxed state while I color. I have used this period to help me prepare for assessments, by achieving a state of meditation before studying, which has worked successfully for great effect throughout this semester.
