Recycling and Sustainability at Home

Doing service while at home was a struggle, especially for our service group. This was because our main goal was focused on reducing the school’s ecological footprint. We normally would help spread awareness about the environment around the school and go collect recyclable materials around school. Since we could not go to school, we had to start focusing on how we can help reduce the ecological footprint inside our own homes.

We had an online zoom meeting and discussed things that we do in our home, that are environmentally friendly/ help reduce our ecological footprint. We then made a goal to do something, we can do at home to reduce the ecological footprint at home. I decided to start ] composting food waste. we already did a little bit of composting at my house but it was all waste from the garden (leaves and plants etc). I decided that I also wanted to try and start composting food waste as well instead of wasting food waste that could be composted. We slowly made progress composting food waste whenever possible but still don’t do it as often as I want. My goal will be achieved when most of our food waste that is compostable get composed on a regular basis.

More recently, in recycling and sustainability, we decided to branch reducing the ecological footprint of our houses to the places around too. We decided that we should take on projects to make videos, posters or infographics on specific ways to reduce the ecological footprint. I decided that I want to make an infographic on how to reduce plastic waste in a house. My plan is to do research on initiatives and alternatives in helping reduce plastic waste and make an infographic that can help the people around my housing complex with managing how much plastic waste they produce.
