Karven's CAS Journey

Final CAS reflection

The CAS program is a program we DP students have undertaken for the past 2 years. Given its wide purview over activity, service, and creativity, it is by no means a stretch to say that CAS has dominated much of our high school life. As a result, now that the time has come to conclude my experience with CAS I am left slightly confused as to how I would wrap up and summarize such an extensive program. I could never do justice to the memories, lessons, and personal growth I have experienced over the last 2 years however I will now attempt to summarize what I feel to be the skills I have improved upon the most throughout my time in the CAS program.

IDENTIFY OWN STRENGTHS AND DEVELOP AREAS FOR GROWTH

As we all know, the CAS program is built upon a series of learning outcomes, that participants are encouraged to pursue through Creative, Physical or Service based activities. In the past identifying areas for growth is something I have struggled with. However, pursuing activities such as SAISA Swimming and Badminton, and meditative coloring and then writing about them in my CAS posts has allowed me to identify areas of strength and weakness. Taking that time to reflect whilst writing my blogs showed me where specifically I need to improve upon and what I needed to continue doing to further improve areas I was already proficient in.

DEMONSTRATE THE SKILLS AND RECOGNIZE THE BENEFITS OF WORKING COLLABORATIVELY

Due to my time as a service leader for the RCCI service group, I had the opportunity to work alongside Iris and Anargi to run our service group. As service leaders our job entailed, running meetings, planning and preparing for future service sessions as well as communicating with the RCCI school to organize online activities during the Pandemic. It is in no way a small workload and it made me grateful to have 2 other people to share the work with. This experience forced me to confront the value of collaboration and the fact that more quality work can be achieved through effective communication between you and your partners.

DEMONSTRATE ENGAGEMENT WITH ISSUES OF GLOBAL SIGNIFICANCE

Along with, reinforcing in me, the value of collaboration, the RCCI service group also afforded me the opportunity to address issues of global significance. In addition to providing the RCCI students with a chance to improve their fine motor skills, our group took steps toward raising awareness on the differently-abled. To this end, Iris and I undertook a service project which taught OSC student how to interact with and connect with students with communication impairments. This endeavor serves as an example to show how through the CAS project we were able to engage with issues of global significance at a local level, whilst also achieving personal growth.
