My CAS Goals

DP – Cas Goals

General Goal- Time Management

I have spent the entirety of my academic life, here at OSC. The programs provided by the school has helped me mature and develop as a person. However the program has also helped illuminate some of my overall weaknesses. One thing that i particularly struggle with is time management. Over the years i have noticed that I haven’t always managed my time effectively resulting in missed deadlines, lack of sleep and just and overall lower quality of work. I plan however to change this over the next 2 years. I understand that the DP program is an incredibly rigours and strenuous program, and managing my time will be instrumental in any success I hope to have. In order to achieve my goal of improving time management I plan on using a simple planner to help space out my work and attempt to complete all assignments at least 1 day prior to the deadline. Doing this will afford me more time to improve my work as well as ensure that all work is turned in before the deadline.

Service goal –

RCCI is a school here in colombo, that helps support and educates the lives of differently abled students. My goal for CAS in terms of the community service aspect is to make a meaningful contribution to the lives of the RCCI students and form a strong bond with them over the next 2 years.First objective is to spend that 1 hour of service time to talking, playing and bonding with the students. The second will be to become 1 of the service leaders so I am able to make meaningful changes and have a impact on how the group is run. One idea Anargi, Iris and myself had was to design and sell RCCI t-shirts at the food and fun fair, in order to raise money for the RCCI school for new furniture, stationary or whatever they deem necessary. I have so far spent a year with the RCCI service group, and I feel i have formed a deep connection with the students and an even greater investment in seeing this service group succeed. I am grateful for the opportunity to work with these children and i look forward to making a meaningful change to the lives of the RCCI students.

Creativity Goals –

At the start of this academic year, I signed up for the meditative coloring ASA. This activity focuses on relieving stress through the visual arts. I have never personally enjoyed the visual arts, as every time I took visual arts at school, my work was up for assessment. The graded work along with the fact that i didn’t achieve the marks I wanted in that class left me annoyed and began to dislike the visual arts entirely. However i saw this as a great opportunity to mix my general goal for the DP year with a creativity goal for CAS. This 1 hour after school on monday helps me to de-stress and prepare for the rest of the school week (as the activity is on a monday). My goal for this activity is to complete 1 piece of art per quarter. This helps me to set a pace for myself, and ensures that I am actually working during that 1 hour.

My second goal for CAS is something that may or may not be achievable. I have spoke with Ms. Jackson in regards to being backstage crew for the production Oliver. I wanted to be apart of the school production and i felt that the best way to help out would be as a member of the backstage. i feel this would be a good experience for me as i haven’t been a part of a school production in a while. However according to Ms. Jackson she has to give preference to DP theatre students (that aren’t performing in the production) as doing something for the production is mandatory for the curriculum they follow. She however did say she would keep me in mind.

Activity

My activity Goals for CAS contain 2 sections. The first is my CAS goal for SAISA swimming, this is an activity that i have been participating in since i was in grade 6. As a result it is something i consistently every year work to improve. The goal i have for this SAISA swim season is to repeat our performance from 2017 and break all three saisa records for the relays. In order to do this i have calculated a rough estimates of some of the minimum times i will need in order to have some success in breaking the records at saisa.

100 free – 1 minute or 1min 1sec

50 free – 27 seconds

50 backstroke – 32 seconds

My second activity that i will be taking part in will be saisa badminton in the third saisa season. My goal for this sport is still being developed. However i have determined that one thing that i will definitely will attempt to accomplish is to make the team for this years saisa badminton championship.
