IB DP1 Orientation Trip / Borderlands – 2023

Experience IB DP1  Orientation Through My Eyes

As a new student this year in OSC it is quite challenging to be part of a community where everyone has known each other for a long period. To me, the first two days were a blur as a lot was happening, On top of not knowing where my classes were, I had no close friends to hang out with and I felt like an intruder in many close relationships. Luckily I had some people help me out with those things after the trip, as experienced Borderlands with DP1 was a way for me to get to know people and establish relationships. Currently, I am still trying to adjust as I still need to get to know people better the DP1 trip helped me get a head start.

Activities

Some of the activities we did include Canyoning, Rafting, Yoga, and Hiking and we also visited a cave where we did a TOK exercise. It was my first time Canyoning and I believe I did a pretty good job as two of the biggest waterfalls (10m) I tackled first and set a great example for the rest of my team (DP1).  The rafting was exciting as we worked as a team led by a tour guide down a rapid river. It was a new experience for me again and I believe my team helped me tackle it, I also learned a lot about streams and the way they travel. it was quite challenging to row since my team was goofing around with other teams (splashing other rafters and tourists). Overall during these two activities, I had the most fun. My least favorite was yoga as I am very inflexible and not a morning person so I woke up cranky and not wanting to do much.
