I’ve participated in a seminar led by NOVA the youth organization, in which we discussed about the impacts of Islamic and European philosophy on the middle-eastern and European culture. I learnt about the essential self-affirmation within the Muslim religion, Hylomorphism proposed by Aristotle and the substance dualism proposed by Avicenna. We discussed Plato, Aristotle, Averroes and Avicenna’s views on philosophy, love, etc in the session, as well as to exhibit the implication of these ideologies. These philosophers added much more ideas than people credit them with, but they also refined the ideas during their life. The philosophies emerged from the Muslim countries credit Western people with inventions, ideas and discoveries created during the Islamic Golden Age. We’ve also read the book “Gulliver’s Travels” and came up with thoughts on traditional Greek medicine, the Islamic Golden Age and “scientific” theories, where we discussed about “the sacred issue” as the most important key to clarify the main line of internal dispute between two sides.
