Last Friday, the 4th of October, we celebrated United Nations Day as a whole school. To say it was a lot of fun is to cut it short. Despite it being a short day (ended at 12:30), it was filled with different activities which overall helped celebrate the different nationalities and cultures that make up our community here at OSC.
Forming part of the DP1 class of 2021 comes with a lot of responsibilities, with one of them taking place on UN day. Throughout the entire month of October we, as a class, were split up into different groups in relation to varying age groups and categories that fall under the UN Day theme of this year; Gender Equality. Our task was, in groups of three, to make a presentation to inform the grades younger than us about different topics related to Gender Equality. Each group had about an hour to present. However, we didn’t just make a presentation where we continuously spoke and the rest listened. We tried to make it as interactive as possible; offering possibilities to discuss, debate and share their ideas as much as possible. At the end of the presentation, we also offered them the chance to interact in a poster activity that discussed different solutions to unequal pay (my topic).
Overall, it was so rewarding to see how intrigued the kids were and how much they participated. They really made it an enjoyable morning by paying attention and contributing positively to the lesson. Down below are some images of my group at UN Day (8,9 and 10 grade)
