Eleez’s Snorkelling Escapade

Closer to the New Year, my family and friends went on a trip to Noonu (Nūnu) Atoll, which is one of the more northern districts of Maldives. This atoll is known for being good for snorkelling and diving because of its biodiversity. We visited Thamburudhoo, a relatively small island, and over here, me and a few others decided to go snorkelling to explore the area. We ended up seeing many different kinds of fish and coral, as well as clams and starfish. The current was quite strong that day, so we didn’t get a proper chance to explore all sides of the island but made the most out of what we did end up seeing. There aren’t a lot of turtles or stingrays in this area; however, the atoll itself is known for having a high population of dolphins, specifically, spinner dolphins. You’d have to be more far out to see them though, but, there are still some exciting creatures by the reef. There wasn’t any plastic or trash in the ocean, making the experience even more enjoyable. I took several photos while snorkelling as I thought they’d be good to share and upload on iNaturalist. There used to be a jetty at Thamburudhoo, but it is now destroyed, the remains are still there in the water, and you can see coral and other organisms on these parts, which was quite interesting to see.
