On Friday 15th our boy’s volleyball team played our 3rd game of the season against Arauvala Dharmapala College. With some good improvements from last week’s game, I hoped our team would come in energized and ready for the game. Our warm-up was standard and our energy was a little bit lackluster. Nevertheless, we got straight into our first set. Our boys definitely had a size advantage going into this game which proved to be an advantage for us, as we won the first set comfortably. However, our team did not play well. We lacked energy, confidence, and ultimately attacking power. Going into the second set the boys were warm and we were able to fix our game mostly. We had better energy a few good attacks, and some better defense in the form of exquisite blocking. In the third set, we had another opportunity to play our younger boys against their younger boys, and the result was great. Compared to last week’s performance the second team played great, with some nice first receives, consistent serving, and a couple of hits. A performance they should be proud of for only their 2nd ever game. Finally, the first team came back on to play the final set to experiment with some of the new attacking formations we learned. We were a little unsuccessful, but it’s good practice in games to build up our experience running different plays in games.
