Two weeks after the previous primary workshop, the second one was conducted. Due to the tremendous amount of holidays it created a gap between the sessions. I was looking forward to work with the children again, as their teacher mentioned to be throughout the week how they consciously made different choices. Like one of the kids actually went to see how sea turtles have been affected by pollution, he shared his experience with the class and encouraged them to be more mindful. When I heard this I was thrilled to see how I am making a positive impact on them, it is truly a rewarding feeling.

For the second and third workshop, I wanted to focus on a more interactive activity that would get the children to ponder upon things we had discussed previously. So I commenced the lesson by asking them to describe the recycle sorter games we had played last session to get their brains actively thinking of the matter again. Once this seed was planted I wanted to make them feel a sense of responsibility. I told explained the issue of how most secondary students have difficulty separating waste. Which left the pre school children responsible for educating them on what should be done, sort of the etiquette of waste separation. Eagerly they took on the task and helped create a colorful and well organized poster.

After school I hung the poster over the garbage cans in the canteen, so that when the students separate their waste they will be more mindful of the process. I am sure the pre schoolers will be excited to see their work up around the school.

During the third workshop the same lesson was conducted to produce another poster which was placed on the other side of the canteen. Above another set of bins. The enthusiasm from the kids was deeply appreciated. They were all extremely excited to see their work displayed for the entire school to observe!

Over the course of the week, I will be monitoring how the secondary school will react to this poster and reconsider their decision. I believe that there is a psychological change in thought process when they are told a task by their teachers versus a younger audience. Simple steps of this sort will allow us our school move to a more sustainable tomorrow. With the effective waste separation, I will be able to start up the bio gas plant again which I believe will make a significant impact on our school community.
