Over 40 nations are represented at our school. Truly, representing our school motto of “Unity In Diversity”. Everywhere I looked, I encountered someone new, representing a different country. Each unique culture was thriving with nothing but pride as students marched with their flags, in the parade. It was interesting to take a step back and glance at the greater picture. It was unbelievable to process the fact that I go to school with these individuals. Each with their own unique stories, that are completely different to the person next to them. It was an enriching experience, as I was learning more and actively being conscious of my surroundings. The highlight would have to be the cultural feast. I devoured food from countries all over the world, my taste buds were excited with each passing bite. It ranged from Indonesian noodles, Mac and Cheese from America to wade from India. Not only was it a great experience for tasting so many different cuisines, but for also learning about the differences in food selection with each nation.
I had the honour to perform at the UN day assembly. As a part of my DP theatre course, I have to take part in a collaborative theatre project (CTP). This is completed over the course of several weeks, and as part of it my ensemble and I had to perform our piece to the entire school. It was rewarding to see their reactions, after weeks of hardwork. Our piece was inspired by the theme of the day; green technology. Our artistic intension was to voice the message that is never too late to act upon global environmental issues. We wanted to inspire the audience to take control of their actions and to do their part. The piece was six minutes long and can be viewed on the video linked below. It was a great opportunity to really voice this message in a powerful way, as we had the audience’s captivated attention for those couple minutes. As global citizens we should come together, unite and act in all the ways possible. We should be empowered by other nations and work together to solve this oppressing global issue. I felt successful as a performer, as with the post performance feedback many voiced they felt a sense of responsibility and an urge to act.
It was also the official debut and reveal of the biogas plant project, which I was working on in collaboration with Mr. Lockwood since last school year. It was really exciting to see this project come to reality and introduce it to our school community. It connects back to my theatre performance, as we are taking action as a school community for a more sustainable tomorrow.
This is live stream from the assembly, the performance can be found here:
