Danaj’s CAS Journey

UN Day 2019

On the 4th of October there was United Nations day, and this year’s theme was on Gender Equality (the 5th Sustainable Development Goal). In the morning there was the flag parade, after the flag parade the entire school met in the gym, and the students from the History group read out the Human Rights Declaration in their native language. After that there was a break, where students had to go to the classrooms that they were assigned to go.

Since I was doing economics, I was in the group that had to present to the MYP 1 students about Gender equality in Education, with Hamda and Iris, we talked about Sri Lanka’s literacy rate between men and women, and we let the MYP 1 kids make posters on what they believed Gender Equality was. We then showed them a few videos connected to that.

After that we had lunch, I ate many delicious food from different countries. After lunch we had an assembly in the Auditorium, where there was theatre group that performed their act, and many speeches from the guest speaker, and the COMUN leader talking about their opinions on Gender Equality.

After all that it concluded the end of UN day.
