Danaj’s CAS Journey

Starting off a new year of Recycling and Sustanability

Last Friday there was a climate strike happened, this was a strike where students in my school were finally taking action making cardboard sign, signing pledges and sending letters to the Environment minister, to ban plastic bags and straws, and do more to help the environment.

In service our goal is to reduce the carbon footprint. And in Recycling and Sustainability, we collect paper, cardboard and plastic water bottles from the Admin, Primary, and Secondary school. We then store them in the recycling shed until we send them to recycling center to sell them. We then used the money to organize events such as Environment Day.

So far in this new year of service we been collecting the paper from around the school with a new team of MYP students, we then sent them to the shed where they get weighed and sold. This round we were able to make approximately 600 rupees. During these rounds were making daily check ins to the biogas plant. During these check ins we collect all the food waste from the canteen and dump them to the bio gas plant. The plant then converts the waste into bio gas (methane) so far we were only testing the gas by boiling water or cooking, we are hoping to make this become our main source of gas, and hope to reduce our carbon footprint.
