Sooooo about that EP………When I introduced my CAS Project, I stated that I would release 3 new original songs and add the 2 previously released songs into an EP. However, that never came to fruition. One of the main challenges I faced with this project was time and lack of inspiration. It would take such a long time to come up with riffs, and melodies, and I will say, I am not a good songwriter. So how did I combat this with the little time I had? Cover songs! Well, one cover song.

This was easier for me as I would know the melodies, the riffs, and most importantly, the lyrics. Choices did vary, but the one song that stuck out to me when choosing the songs was the famous “(Don’t Fear) The Reaper” by Blue Öyster Cult. I thought it would be good as I have already played that song in Resonance, OSC’s official rock band. But my intention was not to cover exactly what is in the original record. I decided to do a stripped-down version with a modern twist. Think of it as an MTV Unplugged song but with more technology.

Some of the changes to my version were slowing the song down, shifting the main guitar riff to synths, and adding more atmosphere to the sound. Those who are familiar with SNL will know about Christopher Walken’s insistence on the cowbell, a staple of the song. But unfortunately, with the direction of my version, I sadly disregarded it. With the mixing and mastering done, it was time to upload. For my music, I use a service called DistroKid, where you can customize the uploads you make, send them to the streaming platforms you want, and more. So for those who are up to this point and wondering when it’s coming out? Reaper will be out on the 22nd of May, 2024!
