On the 20th of January 2024, the Hope For Kids service group hosted its third annual Charity Cricket Match, a match hosted to raise funds for the CCC House, the section of the Apeksha Cancer Hospital that aims to help and support children who are suffering from various forms of cancer. This year, we had an extremely successful match, with the collected funds raising over Rs. 212,000! Now you may be wondering, what was the role that I took on for this time? Was it playing in the match? Keeping score of the teams? Helping out with the food stalls? No. I was selected to be the DJ of the match!
Now for those who know me, I am a performer, you know guitar and vocals and everything in between. But being a DJ? I had no idea how to “DJ” but I quickly asked my service supervisor, Ms. Tanuja, what exactly I must do. She just said “Nothing fancy just play some music through the speakers” Now that was something that I could easily do! I just had to make a playlist of “vibing-up” songs and let that do all the work!
Thus, it was the day of the cricket match. To my knowledge, I was the very first person to arrive at the event. So I got to work, by setting up my small (yet efficiently functioning) DJ station. Then I just sat back, relaxed, and let the playlist run loose. I had a mixture of some old classics from the 70’s 80’s, and 90’s, and also some new house hits to bring the vibes up.
Though it wasn’t a live music event, it was nice to try something new with my music presence in the school. But one thing is for sure, no matter if I am listening to or playing music, I will always enjoy it, and I will always remember this as my first “DJ Gig.”
