Storytelling! through Zoom? (March 30, 2023)
So after the dreadful yet informative three way conferences, I made my way to my mom’s office “The Asia Foundation” to go and do an online storytelling session to kids. About two weeks prior, I asked if I could do any sort of volunteering work for the Books For Asia programme since I very much enjoyed recording audio books. My supervisor then said, “Are you up for reading books to kids?” I of course accepted as I thought it would be a fun experience. For a little bit of context, The Asia Foundation partnered with the National Library of Sri Lanka to host a storytelling event and to introduce the Let’sRead app, (you know the one where all of my audiobooks are) and you know where the rest goes from there. So I head into the office, and set myself up while my parents are listening in from another room.
Around 80 people had entered into the meeting, but let me give a brief breakdown of who exactly was there. Some of my old teachers were there as they were circulated the link by my mom, a couple of public libraries coming from all over the island, some kids from the singing class I attend, and a couple of family members. So I gave a read of two books I recording in the Let’sRead programme. It went well, and I’ll be happy to let you know that the next time you’ll hear me with Books For Asia, it will be in 10 more audio books soon!
